The Good Effects of Aikido on the Body and Mind




The Japanese martial art of Aikido was first introduced in the early 1900's. It is a martial art unlike any of the others practiced today because this one expresses the founder's philosophy of harmony, protection and love. The founder was a man of peace who created movements to be gently flowing and less violent because he was a man of peace. This is indeed a unique quality of martial arts which most people usually associate with violence and physical encounters. This is the reason why Aikido is known as the art of peace. Aikido is a non-violent martial art.

As a martial art, Aikido teaches self-defence. But the benefits do not just end there. It is not only specifically for certain types of people but to everyone, even for the whole family to enjoy and benefit from. Being in shape is very important these days. You can even try to visit those dojos that you feel will be best for you. Trial classes can also be availed of before you commit. Just keep in mind that it is best to continuously practice Aikido so you can reap all the good benefits.  

Once you have decided to attend your first class, you should know what to expect on your first day so that you can prepare for it. On your first day, come early, at least 15 minutes before the scheduled time. You will need to fill out some paperwork. Wear comfortable exercise clothing like a long pants and a shirt, no fancy exercise clothing. Make sure that you finger nails are short and that you do not wear any kind of jewellery even a watch. This is because these may cause unnecessary injury to your partner. The instructor will then give instructions on what you will need to do to begin the class.
